Forging Ahead: Smithy

Forging Ahead: Smithy | 02.25.2017

Saturday, February 25

February is Black History Month. It is a time to look back at the heritage of slavery in our nation,
and celebrate the achievements of African Americans in our community. On February 25th we invite you to join us for a unique smithy demonstration where you can see our blacksmith at work and talk to trained docents. Learn about this 200 year old property, her enslaved residents and find out about some big plans for our future. In addition to the smithy demonstrations we are excited to host an informal talk and book signing from local African American Authors & Historians from 12:00-1:30.

Authors to include:
Bee Jay Caldwell (Author of: Historic Pottstown Families: In Stories and Photos)
Kimberlee E. Cox (Author of: The Adventures of Blythe and Sage: The First Day of Pre-K)
Carl Gamble (Author of: My Blue Yonder)
Barbara Jackson (Wife of late author Robert Travis Jackson, Sr. who wrote: A Collection of Essays and Letters From an Old Black Man)

Barbara & Bee Jay are both also docents with the Mecklenburg Historical Association and have amazing knowledge of this areas history.

The Forging Ahead Program is only $12 and includes admission to our 1:30 or 3:00 house tour.
